Guess What I Did Today?

So we know that last week the dentist said that my wisdom teeth had to come out. So off I go to a surgeon, because the dentist didn't feel comfortable taking them out.
I get to the surgeon yesterday, and he says me teeth should be no problem. I'll come in, they'll put me to sleep I'll wake up and it'll be all over with except for the recovery bit. He drew on my x-rays as he was talking to me. They looked like this:

Then he explained why they had to come out. I added some more labels that I thought might be helpful. This diagram makes more sense the Will's explanation.

So this morning was the big day. I got there and they called me back. I met two nice nurses who i can't remember the names of. They put in an IV. I asked her what was in it, the Nurse said it was bacon and eggs, which is great cause I was starving(No Food, No Drink , since Midnight the night before). I told her about the irregularities in my heart and blood pressure (Heart goes fast and blood pressure is low, all still normal though). The surgeon comes in and he pushes a shot through my IV, I see him rearranging the other shots on the table, I can hear the heart monitor beeping..........

The next thing I know, I'm waking up in my recliner watching TV with a mouth full of gauze. I asked how I got home apparently in the car. Total time in Surgery, about an hour and now my x-ray looks kinda like this

I feel better now. Check with me after my pain meds are gone.

Thoughts, Well Wishes, and prayers to whichever diety is appropriate are appreciated.

I have to go to the dentist in the morning. I wonder why, since Cap has figured it out. He drew me a diagram and explained it all to me. Let's see if everyone can get it.

So, all I have to do is kill the tooth gremlin. Then I'm all good.

So six things about myself.....hrmmmm......

1. I have an unholy love affair with Build-A-Bear. Cap bought me my bear and I've been dying to go back. I browse their site and make wishlists of little outfits that Salty Bob should, and yes I do change my bears clothes. Now, let's not bring this up in public.

2. I want to build clockwork automatons. Never mind the fact that I have zero engineering skills or experience. I am utterly fascinated by automatons, especially those that function entirely without the aid of computers and circuits. For example the ones built in the 1730's. I am completely in awe of how they function and that they even functioned at all. I would love to figure them out and maybe even do some of my own.

3. I am currently reading the works featuring Sherlock Holmes. I have never read these books extensively and I'm a little ashamed of that as well read as I am. The stories are very good, but so many movies and novels published since them have emulated them so that I know the answers before I get to the end.

4. I am teaching myself to play the violin.

5. I think wetnote.com is one of the coolest websites ever.

6. I learned to play poker when I was four years old. What that means is that I'm more experienced with poker than most people I know. But experience will only get you so far when it comes to poker.

I work for Wal-Mart. My job, other than to make pictures is to sell cameras(Yay, Photo Lab). Before that I worked electronics. But this week takes the cake where training is concerned.

I totally understand that Wally World is behind the times when it comes to technology. I got that when they were teaching us about MP3 players and the training program said that 512Mb was high in the memory capacity for players on the market today. (As far as the training is concerned, a 3 megapixel camera is really awesome too and you only need a 256Mb card for that) Anyway, this week we got a new training program Cyberscholar. This program was put together by the awesome folks over at Consumer Electronics Association and let me tell you that they don't know crap about electronics, let alone how to sell them to customers. The questions that go with these modules are assinine and poorly written. Here's an example

The category is Digital Imaging
The sub-category is Sharing Digital Images (Creative, no?)

Your customer wants to show his photos on his new DTV in the Living Room and his old TV in the Kitchen. How can he do that?

    A. Can't be done
    B. Via a digital photo frame
    C. Via portable flash memory
    D. Via a CD or DVD

I think I'll let everyone ponder that for a bit. The answer seems obvious, at least it did to me (Until this question made me fail the module 8 times)

Even better is their explanation for how a digital photo frame works.

"[A digital photo frame is] an LCD screen that's networked and lets you update the images any time."

Ok, so it's not all bad. A digital photo frame is and LCD screen. But, to my knowledge, we don't have any photo frames that are network capable in my store or indeed on the website. All the frames I've seen are plug & play only or download and play. If I told a customer that the frames were networked they'd believe it and wait for their pictures to magically appear on the screen. Sure someday really soon (Probably before the end of this year or next year) that could happen, but explaining how to do that to the average customer who is just barely able to grasp the concept that DVDs don't have to be rewound is going to be monumentally difficult and certainly not worth the $8.50 an hour that Wal-Mart thinks I deserve.

So how much did the mega, giant, EVIL, corporation pay for such a quality training tool.

Absolutely nothing.

That's right pennypinching Wal-Mart has given all of it's electronics employees a substandard training tool that some random home office flunkie found online. I'm suffering for it because I know better. But, I would dare say that 50% of my fellow employees don't know any better because their first experience with electronics of any kind was when they came to work for Wal-Mart and had to learn how to operate the cash register. The old training program was outdated, sure, but at least it was accurate. This Cyberscholar stuff is just crap.

I guess the moral of the story is you get what you pay for.

Oh yeah, the answer is C.

My Birthday Cake.

So yesterday was my birthday. On my birthday I play around with my birthday cake. I love decorating cakes and I like to try new things to see what I can come up with. This is my birthday cake that I decorated yesterday.

It didn't take too long to make and it was fun. It was a little on the small side so I had cupcakes to go along with it. Tell me what you think of it. Everyone's comments are welcome. I think that next year I'm going to make the Disc with elephants and everything.

This morning I got up and started out on my long trip to Alaska. Right now as I'm writing I'm sitting in the Denver Airport. I'm having a great time aside from ear popping and altitude sickness. I just wanted to let everyone know. I hope that everyone has a good time while I'm gone. See you soon.

So my sweetheart and I are both the biggest geeks ever. He got me the coolest present ever. I came home from work tonight and IT had arrived. He ordered IT a few days ago from thinkgeek. I was thinking something like a binary watch or clock. But IT is so much better. Check it out.

Here's the package.

I'm so excited. It has a UV pen and it emits UV light so the "psychic paper" can be read only when you shine the sonic screwdriver on it. It is awesome and completely totally geeky. I love it.

Now the dreadful display sales thing is done. I don't have to take down anymore crappy TVs for people to buy and then bring back and then bitch because no we won't swap their crappy clearanced tv for a newer one for the same crappy clearance price.

That makes me immeasurably happy as well as saner.

Now all I have to figure out is which keys get into the new spiffy Wii case that we got. Oh yeah and figure out what all the laptops did to end up in jail. Next time you go to Wal-Mart check out where we keep the laptops and you'll understand.

I hate Wal-Mart Clearance time.

Okay, so for those who don't know I work at Wal-Mart in the electronics department. Normally it's an easy enough job. I mainly stand around and answer stupid random questions like "Is this TV High Definition?" (That's what HD means) "Who's that guy/girl that sings that song you know the one that they play on the radio?" (I own an MP3 player and therefore don't often listen to the radio so I don't know that guy/girl or that song.) Don't even get me started on Computer questions and whether there's a particular printer that you must use with a laptop (USB = UNIVERSAL Serial Port)
But today is just the worst.

Every three months various sections in our department get reset. That means a new layout and new models of just about everything. This week we're getting ready to put up new TV displays. This is cool of course because I get to setup and program all the newest and coolest TV sets on the market. This is not cool because we sell the old displays and mark everything down drastically. I have been selling TVs nonstop for the past week and a half and everyone wants to throw a fit because I can't drop the price another 20 bucks because the stand is scratched nevermind the fact that these display models have been running 24 hours a day 7 days a week for the past 6 to 9 months with the exception of Christmas (That means that in about 3 months just past the date that you can bring it back it's going to die and never be able to be revived) Let's add in all the other crackpots that I deal with everyday like the mom's whose kids have project due at 8 in the morning and they waited until 10 the night before to come and try to print them out at the Photo Lab and then want to cuss me out because I can't (won't) turn them back on just because she's disorganized.

Okay, just for everyone else who might be interested. Wal-Mart does have a really awesome sale going on. Most of the TVs have been marked down a couple of hundred bucks. Just so you can get a good deal if you want one. Have Fun.
